The District Court division handles mainly misdemeanor crimes and incarcerable traffic citations.
There are no jury trials in this division as all cases are heard by a judge who decides the verdict
based upon evidence presented. In cases which a sentence may be greater than 90 days incarceration,
a defendant has the right to have the case moved to the Circuit Court for a jury trial. This division
prosecutes more than 5,000 cases per year.
