Fran Longwell received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of
Maryland in College Park in 1983 and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore
in 1990. She worked as a Victim/Witness Coordinator in Prince George's County from 1979
until 1991 when she was appointed by Alexander Williams to the position of Assistant
State's Attorney. Fran has prosecuted virtually every type of crime including misdemeanors,
juvenile offenses, violent crimes, sexual assaults, physical child abuse and sexual child
abuse cases. She was assigned to the Homicide Unit in Prince George's County from 1996
until she came to Calvert County. During her tenure in the Homicide Unit, she successfully
prosecuted dozens of homicide cases. Fran is a member of the bar for the Court of Appeals
of Maryland, the United States District Court and the United States Supreme Court. Fran
has received the Maryland Governor's Victim Assistance Award, a commendation from the
United States Park Police, and a commendation from the Prince George's County Police
Department.
