The District Court State's Attorney's Office is supervised by Senior Assistant State's
Attorney Michelle Saunders. Ms. Saunders is a 1990 graduate of High Point College and a
1993 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. Ms. Saunders came to Calvert County
to serve as law clerk to The Honorable Warren J. Krug in 1993 and started working in the
State's Attorney's Office in 1994. After four years in the office, Ms. Saunders left to
pursue a law practice in the area of criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law.
She returned to the State's Attorney's Office in 2000 and has been supervising the District
Court office since that time. Ms. Saunders has also taught recruits at the Maryland State
Police academy on the subject of alcohol-related driving arrest report writing and prosecution.
The District Court prosecutes over four thousand cases per year under her supervision.
